Herring is a traditional Dutch fish. In the weekend of Pentecost the Dutch fishing villages celebrate “flags day”, all the fishing boats are decorated with the National flag and everybody can taste the first caught herring.

In some villages the people wear the traditional clothing of their ancestry. Dutch people eat herring raw with onions, but you can put in on a sandwich, use it for sushi, smoking and many other dishes.
